Change Isn't Always Good
Change isn't always good, but it can be healthy. My wife always tells me I'm afraid of change. I started to make changes this season and Steelers are 0-3, first time in 10+ years this happened, Pirates finally have a winning record and are in the playoffs, first time since 1992. Do I keep pushing through this and stick with my changes or do I go back to basics?
Both teams have made changes, the Pirates have been making changes for 21 years and it seems it's finally paying off. The Steelers made changes over the last two yrs and doesn't appear to be paying off. I haven't been a big Todd Haley fan his first two seasons, especially this yr. They want to run the ball more, use the zone blocking, well it's not working. At first I was calling for Todd's head and he should be fired or not retained after this yr. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I wasn't looking at the big picture. The personnel we have on the field isn't doing their job and maybe aren't the best players for it. Our O-Line are 1st and 2nd rd picks, yet they are playing like D-3 players... Our strength is in the air, Ben has a great arm, we have excellent WR and TE talent, let's use it. Like me and 65,000 other fans, if we had the answers, we'd be coaches. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes in preparation and practice. This past week, we've looked better and this week, Le'Veon Bell is supposed to be back. I have been excited about this kid since he was in college. His real test is going to be, can he pick up the blockers and protect Ben in passing situations?? We'll soon find out.
For those of you who know me, I am really superstitious when it comes to the Steelers and my gameday and week up to gameday preparations. With all the changes this yr, I thought, maybe it's time for me to change up some things. I am wearing a new "Steelers Gameday Hat" and I also don't have black and yellow gameday shoes this season. I also haven't been wearing my ususal gameday jeans. My tshirt I wear under my jersey is also new this season, my last one I've been wearing for at least 7 yrs, the collar was falling apart, holes in it, but it was comfortable. In the past I have also worn a specific Tshirt on Steeler Saturday, as long as we kept winning, I'd keep wearing it, no wash involved. If we lost it would be changed. I have to step back and ask myself, was this change good for me, do I continue it? The answer is no, I have to get back to basics, just like the Steelers. I know there isn't a correlation between my gameday preparations and the Steelers but I like to think there is. I remind myself a lot like Jimmy Fallon in the Movie Fever Pitch.
Well this yr with Pitt joining the ACC, I have been wearing my Pitt Tshirt on Saturdays, Pitt keeps winning, the Steelers keep losing. Do I need to turn back to my Saturday Steelers Tshirts? These are the decisions I stress out about, not normal. The hard decisions come easy to me on what should be done.
One way or another, we'll figure it out!
Until next time...
